From Porch to Pavement: The Changing Face of Hampton Road

Before the busy intersection and the constant flow of cars, the corner of Marr and Hampton Road had a quieter, more rural character. The house that once stood there was part of the daily landscape for people in Rothesay, especially those who passed the corner on their way to work, school, or town errands. The Jarvis family lived there until the mid 1970s when the property was sold to the Irving family in 1975, leading to the development of the gas station that many residents know today. For longtime locals, this photograph is a reminder of how quickly surroundings can change within a single generation. It is also a small snapshot of the gradual shift from farmland and open lots to the more familiar commercial spaces that serve the community now. Thank you to the Rothesay Living Museum for preserving this glimpse of what the town once looked like.
